Here We Grow Again

When in Rome, do as the Roman’s do.

Well, our Roman Murray Wolfe arrived 3 weeks early on April 8, 2025, but otherwise a healthy 6 pounds 2 ounces. He had a couple minor setbacks, but arrived home on April 20 – a day of joy for all of us.

Handsome like his Papa!

Welcome to our family little man. A baby brother to Lewis, a second son to Geoff and Martha, and another addition to our band of boys. My goodness, at this rate we will soon be able to field a starting hockey lineup. Five grandsons! I could not have imagined the joy that that has brought us just a few short years ago.

We have been late adapters to this grandparent thing. I had no idea what all the fuss was about. But boy am I enjoying it.

Roman’s big brother Lewis, had missed his mom and dad terribly while they were sequestered at the hospital with Roman, ensuring he was healthy and thriving well enough to come home.

All he knew was that mommy had Baby “Bucky” in her belly and soon he would be a big brother.

Funny how names and nicknames come about. Karen and I were in Florida, visiting her sister Janette and husband Keith, in mid January – you know, when it wasn’t considered blasphemous, or a risk to cross the US border. Remember those days when going to the US was a joy and not a risk to be imprisoned?

We happened to be at BUC-EE’S – the massive gas station, clothing store, eatery and beer store, a monolith among gas stations – when we got a text from Martha. She was introducing us to our new grandson, via her latest 3D ultrasound photo.

We were all surprised and excited. Janette as is her custom – can’t control her witty ripostes – and blurted out “they will have to name him Bucky. It seems appropriate”. And until he had a formal name, he became Bucky to all of us. Even Lewis said “Baby Bucky is in Mommy’s tummy”.

Let’s see if that sticks! It is a great name for a baseball player after all. He will no doubt become someone famous. AMIRIGHT?

When Martha and Geoff arrived home on the evening of the 20th, Lewis was excited to meet Bucky. Though they soon explained that his real name was Roman. After careful consideration – Lewis proclaimed, “take him back in the car”!! He had had enough and wanted his rightful place in the family restored.

Out of the mouths of babes!!

Welcome to the Wolfe Gang, Bucky. We love you so much already.
