Well. Here we are!

I have consciously tried to stay away from politics in this blog, but I need to get some thoughts formed on paper, as it were.

One of my many deficiencies in life, is the inability to think well on my feet, and as a result, to articulate my thoughts verbally. I need to allow ideas to “percolate” in my head, before forming an opinion. I am much better at forming my thoughts via the written word.

What the Hell is Happening?

What has happening with the government to the south is beyond comprehension. A perfect storm of events have transpired to elevate a conman, an adjudicated rapist, a pedophile, a sociopath, to the most powerful position on the world stage.

Not ONCE – but TWICE!

I have friends and relatives in the States _ not the United States any longer, just the States. They are good people, caring people, loving people. We recently met and befriended several American couples, while on our trip to Africa. I hope to be friends with them for many years. They are like you and I – horrified.

For the 75 million people that voted for this, I abhor you.

For the 200 million that were so apathic that they could not be bothered to vote. This is what you get, when you take your civil liberties for granted.

For the 75 million that voted for democracy, my heart breaks for you. You are stuck, like the rest of the world wondering how we got here. Afraid for your future, for your children, for your grandchildren. You are bound by your love of country, neighbours, friends, finances, careers. The inability to relocate and escape this insanity.

‘Another” Tipping Point?

Yesterday was visceral for me. A 37 year old woman in Minneapolis – a place I have worked, a place I know people, was shot in cold blood – not by gangs, or a crazed criminal – but by law enforcement. The government tried to blame her as trying to run down the agent. Video evidence clearly shows the opposite is true.

The President of the States goes on record blaming her. Think about that!!!! The freaking president blames her.

What were we to expect?

New National Security Strategy

This administration is for sale. They have pardoned hardened criminals, rapists, murderers, child molesters.

Trump and his Oligarchs have put their plans on paper, in their latest National Security Strategy. They have been building up their military for years while we have watched from the sidelines, believing we would always be protected by our big brother to the South. Those days are over. The latest Military budget request from Trump is $1.5 TRILLION. What the hell do we think that is for?

That strategy includes control of the Western Hemisphere. That includes Canada my friends.

They have already unleashed ICE on “democratic leaning cities and states”. Does anyone think that they are not being trained for guerilla warfare, to support Trump and his allies?

Venezuela is the first to fall. Not because their president was a bad guy – he was. But because Trump told the big oil executives, during his election campaign that if they provided him $1B that he would repay them. Now he is following through. He has stated that HE will sell the Venezuelan oil, and by all accounts as of today, put the money in off shore accounts.

They are not hiding the tyranny anymore.

Greenland may be next, by force if necessary. You may feel like Greenland is inconsequential. It’s not! Yes there are minerals there that the States covet. It is also a gateway to the arctic, where untold oil and gas reserves sit untapped under the ice. Ice that is melting and where Russia is already exploring. In contested waters I might add – Canadian waters.

What else is close to Greenland? Canada is about 250km from the closest point of Greenland. Does one think for a moment that we could not be next? We have minerals, gas, oil, lumber etc that the States covet.

Mid Terms Anyone?

Trump is already musing about cancelling the mid term elections. Poll numbers are not favourable to him. But if the elections do happen, they are likely to be no more valid that Russian elections. Elon Musk helped rig the last one. He is back again.

Peter Thiel, known for elevating JD Vance to Trumps orbit, has infiltrated government data systems, with his own Palantir software. Palantir’s reputation is controversial. Although the software only analyzes data collected by the customers, some criticize it for enabling surveillance. Professor Vasilis Galis notes that the software is not a mere tool, but shapes policing culture with new policing norms. Enabling surveillance of many government systems, and thus data on all American citizens.

Feel free to research him yourself. He is a scary guy.

What is Next

When I was in my younger days, politics was for old people. So I guess that still holds true. However, I urge you to stay informed, or be informed. An informed populace is a prepared populace. Prepared for what, I do not know. We have never lived through a time like this in my 70 years.

In some ways, I am nervous to write about politics. Will I, can I, by targeted? But I admire those that stand up and have a voice. Show courage in the face of adversity. Tell the truth. Break things down for others to understand.

Who will stand up to tyranny if not us?

It is said that once fascism has been established, it takes at least two generations – 40 years – for it to topple.

I cant help but think – there I am.
